What Is a Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty (commonly called a nose job) is a cosmetic procedure dedicated to addressing concerns about the appearance of the nose. This could be the shape, size, protrusion, angle, symmetry, and more. The core idea is that your surgeon can enact subtle and precise changes to bring your nose’s appearance into alignment with your natural features and aesthetic preferences. Some key concerns it can improve include:
- Nasal asymmetry
- Nostril concerns (wide, upturned, large)
- Nose proportion to the rest of the face
- Profile of the nose
- Uneven or bumpy bridge
- Hooked or drooping nasal tip
- Nasal width
- Breathing issues caused by deviated septum
Types of Rhinoplasty
Non-Surgical Nose Job: A non-invasive alternative that uses dermal fillers to alter the nose’s shape. Results are temporary, offering a solution that avoids long-term commitment to changes. Treatment can be repeated as desired.
Benefits
Am I a Good Candidate?
Nose surgery can be a great solution for almost any patient who has cosmetic concerns about their nose. Though this is still a full procedure, it is less intense than body surgeries, allowing a wider range of potential candidates. A good candidate will still need to match a few features, though. Namely, you will get the most out of rhinoplasty if you are in good health, have healthy expectations, and are ready for open communication with your facial plastic surgeon.
During your consultation, Dr. Dhir will go over your medical history and expectations to match you with the right procedure choice. He conducts a complete exam of your nasal structures to build a personalized approach to delivering the nose you have always wanted. Plastic surgery is about taking control over your appearance, and the consultation is the ideal time to start doing this.

Overview of the Procedure Process
Consulting: Building an Optimal Foundation
Successful surgery starts with a successful consultation. During this meeting, you can discuss your goals, needs, and hopes for the procedure. On Dr. Dhir’s end, he will answer all your questions and provide comprehensive information about your surgical options. Working together, you can build your tailored surgery plan.
Part of this involves going through previous before-and-after photos and inspiration photos. This allows you to see what can be accomplished and better visualize what results you want. You choose the basic feel of your nose, including:
- The size or shape you want
- The slope of the nose
- The size of your nostrils
Each element is under your control. As one of the leading surgeons specializing in nose surgery, he will adapt your procedure accordingly.
Preparing: Setting Yourself Up for Success
Preparing for a nose job is straightforward, but it does require a few steps:
- Do not eat or drink immediately before the procedure
- Stop taking certain medications (such as blood thinners)
- Obtain all required bloodwork
- Stop use of nicotine products and some herbal supplements
- Arrange your home for a comfortable recovery
- Make plans for someone to drive you home from surgery
The Surgery: The Big day
What is the recovery like after nose surgery?
How much downtime does rhinoplasty require?
We recommend about 7-14 days of downtime for the initial recovery. This period will involve taking time away from work or strenuous activities and following all your post-procedure care instructions. Rest and aftercare are crucial to seeing quicker healing and optimal long-term results.
We know how tempting it can be to get back to life and display your new nose. But always take the full downtime recommended. Allow your nose to heal smoothly, and you can see optimal results.
Will a Nose Job Leave a Scar?
For closed nose job, all incisions are made inside the nostril, so there is no visible scarring. For open techniques, any incisions are still made in areas where they will have little to no visibility. Whenever possible, Dr. Dhir prefers the technique that will garner the best result possible. However, the open technique is most commonly utilized for complex nasal tip work and revision cases. He will discuss which technique will be utilized at the time of consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does rhinoplasty cost?
Does insurance cover rhinoplasty?
Most rhinoplasty procedures are considered cosmetic. As such, insurance companies do not provide coverage for them. However, septoplasty often counts as a medically necessary procedure, as it can improve breathing and nasal health. If you plan to have a septoplasty, we recommend contacting your insurance provider to see what your plan covers. Many plans will cover at least part of the procedure cost.
Can you combine rhinoplasty with other procedures?
Will I sound different after rhinoplasty?
The nose’s shape certainly does influence one’s speech. Following surgery, the swelling can lead to a more nasally voice, but this change is temporary. Some patients may notice minor changes to their voice once they fully recover, but these changes remain subtle. This typically only occurs with septoplasty, which alters the internal shape of the nose. However, most patients enjoy the small changes, as it can create a slightly less nasal tone to the voice. Cosmetic rhinoplasty should not result in any notable change in your voice.
Will a nose job leave a scar?
When can I exercise after a nose job?
After you complete your downtime, you can make a gradual return to physical activity. But don’t jump right back into your full routine. Start with light exercise, such as walking, which can even promote healing. Dr. Dhir will see you for a follow-up appointment to see how your healing is going. Based on this, he can recommend a timeline for returning to your normal physical routine. Generally, patients are back to exercising in about 7 weeks after surgery. Things to keep in mind include:
- Avoid any higher-risk activity (contact sports, gymnastics, extreme sports)
- Listen to your body (if anything feels off with your nose, pause your workout)
- Stay extra hydrated
- Taken breaks as needed
When Will When will I get to see my results?
Once the initial swelling goes down and the cast is removed, patients can begin to see their new nose take shape. While you can start to enjoy your results within a matter of days, it can take several months for the results to fully settle, with most healing completed at the 6-week mark. Factors such as the amount of bone shaved away, amount of tip work, inherent skin thickness, amount of structural repositioning, and personal healing rate can all impact the timeline.
Still, you can expect improvements with each passing day and gradually enjoy your new nose more and more. The wait is worth it, as results can last for a lifetime! Discover the advantage of facial harmony and balance that can bring out your full beauty.
