Teenage Rhinoplasty

Adolescent years are some of the most trying, and having significant cosmetic or functional nose concerns certainly does not make it easier. However, cosmetic nose surgery for teens requires a specific skill set and extensive knowledge not only of the nose structures but also of how they change, both physically and emotionally, during human development. Any change in a teen’s nose will need to take these factors into consideration. Dr. Dhir is proud to offer teenage rhinoplasty in Beverly Hills to help patients see changes that matter.

What Makes Teenage Rhinoplasty Different?

Teenage rhinoplasty can focus on cosmetic improvements, functional improvements, or both. Most of the time, we only recommend nose surgery for a teen if they have a strong deviation in nasal shape or if they struggle breathing through the nose. His goal is to provide his patients with results that help both improve their health and encourage a strong, positive self-image that will last a lifetime.

However, special considerations must be taken for teenage nose surgery, including:

  • Teens will continue to develop, so any changes must consider this
  • The changes must strengthen the nose to prevent future reversion or problems
  • Nasal stability for open airways is of paramount importance
  • All changes should be conservative (do less with more)
  • Consider how the patient’s face will develop on the whole to create results that feel balanced

What Is Teenage Cosmetic Nose Surgery Like?

Though every teen’s surgery will be fully personalized to their needs, the outline is similar enough to break it down as follows.

  • Patients will prepare by getting some bloodwork, stopping certain medications, and anything else needed
  • The patient will receive general anesthesia from a board-certified specialist for maximum safety
  • The procedure begins and lasts about 4 to 6 hours in most cases
  • You can return home the same day

Recovery & Results

Patients typically should take about 7-10 days away from all activities following teenage rhinoplasty. For this reason, it is often best to schedule the surgery during the summer or some other break from school to avoid missing too many classes. Swelling, bruising, and some pain are normal and can be managed well with your prescribed medication. After 2 weeks, patients can gradually return to physical activities but should continue to care for their nose in the weeks to come until it is fully healed. So no high-impact or risky activities (such as sports).
